Family Practice Unit - Urban

The Family Practice Unit is a busy outer suburban general practice providing a comprehensive range of services to the local community. It was established in 1979 by Professor Timothy Murrell.
The practice has 3 main aims, to provide a quality patient service, to provide a teaching unit to medical udergraduates, postgraduates and allied health professionals and to undertake research in general practice areas. The practice is well organised with dedicated doctors and staff. The practice provides a bright clean and spacious setting for the provision of general practice and associated services. The practice has 10 consulting rooms and a large well equipped treatment room.
Family Practice Unit also has three practice nurses including a nurse practitioner candidate.

The Practice seeks to provide comprehensive treatment by promoting good health as well as providing curative and palliative care. Important aspects of this are: Immunization, blood pressure checks, smear tests and breast examination for women and referral when appropriate for mammography, blood tests for cholesterol, screening for diabetes, dietary advice, stress management, advice on regular exercise, grief counseling, and assistance in stopping smoking.

  • The Hope Valley Reservoir
    A 2840 megalitre service reservoir in Hope Valley. When completed in 1873 it was the second reservoir constructed in Adelaide; it is the oldest still in use in South Australia.It covers 52 hectares (128 acres) and is retained behind a 950-metre (3,117 ft) long clay-cored earth wall. Water is transferred from the River Torrens via a tunnel and aqueduct.
