Port Lincoln Aboriginal Health Service Rural

Port Lincoln Aboriginal Health Service opened in 1993. The centre employs about 40 staff and has a primary health care culture and focus. It is a community controlled service with a board of management elected by the local community.
The centre has a history of involvement in a range of Chronic Disease Management (Self Management), Continuous Improvement and Quality Use of Medicine trials.
To provide a more complete range of services to the clients, the PLAHS utilises shared-care arrangements within the local community health service. With clinical, chronic disease and social and emotional wellbeing teams the service is well placed to provide holistic care to clients. The Chronic Disease and Child & Maternal programs, funded under various Commonwealth initiatives are particular strengths of the organisation. Currently four GPs are employed to provide six or seven clinical sessions per week The clinic has held RACGP accreditation since 2003 and the whole service is now undergoing accreditation against Quality Improvement Council (QIC) standards.
