Wakefield Plains Medical Clinic - Rural

Wakefield Plains Medical Clinic provides a comprehensive range of medical services to the local community of Balaklava, and the surrounding districts . The centre is the only practice in the area and serves a population of around 3 - 4000 people.
Working in cooperation with the local hospital, 24-hour cover, normal general practice, emergency care, in-patients, anaesthetics, and aged-care services are provided at this centre. The practice nurses assist the GPs with a wide range of nursing services and with promoting better management of chronic diseases. Our practice is accredited by AGPAL. It is also computerized using MedTech 32 for clinical records, appointments, and billing.

The town of Balaklava is in a highly regarded agricultural district with a focus on high quality cereals, legumes and hay crops with the spin off exporting businesses located in our catchment area. The town is located 90kms north of Adelaide in the Mid North region. It is centrally located within easy reach of Adelaide, the Clare and Barossa Valleys and the Yorke Peninsular. There are well resourced schools in Balaklava, a High school, Primary school and a private Christian School catering for pre school to year 12 students.

    Balaklava hosts the annual Balaklava Cup horse racing carnival each August. Balaklava also holds its own music Eisteddfod every year in early August. It has been running since 1997 and is a major event for the townships attracting people from Adelaide. Yorke Peninsula and the Mid North areas.

    Balaklava has many sporting facilities and clubs, such as the local basketball competitions, cricket and tennis in summer, with football and netball in winter. The basketball, netball & tennis courts along with the newly developed indoor cricket nets are all centralised on the one ground, Ralli Park, with the oval 20 metres away. Balaklava also has it own solar heated swimming pool complex, which is open to the public from mid October through to April.
