Board

AOGP is a private, not-for-profit organisation, incorporated under the South Australian Associations Incorporation Act (1985).

AOGP is governed by an independent Board comprised of people selected for their personal skills, expertise, and affiliations relevant to medical education and General Practice speciality training. The Board also includes two organisational nominees, namely the AOGP CEO and the University of Adelaide Executive Dean of Health Sciences. All Board Members annually renew their agreement to fulfill their fiduciary responsibilities to AOGP, the organisation.

Board subcommittees

The governing Board appoints short-term task groups and/or standing subcommittees, which are comprised of relevant personnel whom the Board deems suitable to further the interests of AOGP. This may include, but is not restricted to, Board members and AOGP senior management. Standing subcommittees are listed below.

Appeals and Grievance Subcommittee

An independent subcommittee structure has been established to enable the effective processing of unresolved appeals and grievances. This subcommittee is an option that can be pursued as part of the AOGP Grievance Process, but is only convened as required.

The Chief Executive Officer of AOGP provides secretariat support for the conduct of this subcommittee.

Research Committee

Since its inception, AOGP has had a strong commitment to research, endeavouring to ensure that the education it provides, and its strategic goals, are underpinned by evidence. AOGP also receives an increasing number of requests—internally and externally—for involvement in research projects, many of which request access to AOGP Registrars and Supervisors. The Research Committee is in place to progress and manage AOGP’s involvement in research and to provide support and mentoring to Staff, Registrars, and Supervisors who are involved in this research.

Community Stakeholder Reference Group

In contrast to the AOGP Board, this group is a representative-based committee that has been drawn from key regional stakeholder groups located within the AOGP region. They are encouraged to provide advice and recommendations to the Board from their stakeholder perspective. The Board requires this standing subcommittee to meet at least once per year and report its deliberations and findings directly to the Board through the subcommittee Chair.
