Improving register

ESTIMATED TIME: 30 minutes

Improving your register means being learning to use plain English when you speak to your patients, in such a way that your patients understand you.
It would be no good, for example, to use the same level of plain English to a 60-year-old, as you would to a six-year-old child. This ability to tailor your language to your patient is referred to as 'flexibility'.

This module contains:
  1. Avoiding medical jargon
  2. Flexibility: matching your language to your patient
