Ophthalmology is typically thought of as being taught poorly at an undergraduate and postgraduate level. As a result of this, some Registrars have a lack of confidence in dealing with acute eye presentations in general practice. This teaching session attempts to overcome some of the difficulties that can be encountered in teaching and learning in this setting.
Prior to the teaching session look at the attached examination proforma, and have a think about whether you would find it useful in your day-to-day practice. Reflect on your own level of confidence and skill when confronted with acute eye presentations. How does the change from a hospital setting to general practice affect this?
Are you aware of what eye equipment is available in your current Practice and where it is?
During the teaching session you will have an opportunity to view some other resources with your Supervisor, including a PowerPoint presentation of assessment and management of acute eye conditions.
